Teleserye ng Buhay Pinoy?

Mukhang sa pagkalugi na naman mauuwi ang ABS-CBN sa bago nitong show na Pinoy Big Brother (PBB). Sa kabila ng matagal at bongga nitong publicity, hindi pa rin naitaob nito ang mga katapat na fantaserye sa kalabang istasyon.

Sa three-part launch ng PBB, hindi na ito tumugma sa pagsasalarawan ng mga nauna nitong advertisement na nagpapakilala sa palabas bilang “teleserye ng totoong buhay.” Pilit na pilit din ang pang-eengganyo ng mga host nito sa pagpapakete sa PBB bilang “pinakamalaking reality TV show” sa bansa.

Bago ang premiere telecast ng PBB noong Lunes, napanood ko ang pelikulang ED TV sa HBO. Sa istorya, isang television network ang naglunsad ng isang reality TV show na pinamagatang True TV kung saan ipinakita ang pang-araw-araw na ginagawa ng isang tao sa loob ng 24 oras. Walang panahong hindi kasama ng bidang lalaki ang mga cameraman ng True TV at naglagay din ang mga ito ng mga built-in camera sa loob ng kanyang bahay at sasakyan.

Bagamat hindi naman magkapareho ang format ng dalawa, malayong-malayo sa tipo ng reality show ng ED TV ang kinalabasan ng pilot episode ng PBB.

Marahil dahil na rin sa halos isang oras lang tumatakbo ang programa, hindi nito buong ipinapakita ang 24 oras na ginagawa ng bahay tao na nakatira sa PBB house. Edited at recorded na ang nakikita ng mga manonood gabi-gabi.

Hindi rin umaakma ang konsepto ng palabas sa realidad ng buhay Pinoy. Maliban na nasa ABS-CBN compound lang ang “bahay ni Kuya,” hindi sinasalamin ng kumpleto at magarbong mga kasangkapan ng PBB house ang realidad ng ordinaryong tahanan ng isang pamilyang Pilipino.

Hindi rin kultura ng ordinaryong Pinoy ang ipinapakita ng karamihan sa mga nakatira sa PBB house. Karamihan din kasi sa mga napili ay mga model at nakakariwasa sa buhay. Mapapansin din na halos lahat ng kalahok ay mga kabataan. Walang representasyon ang mga nasa age-bracket na 40 at mga senior citizens.

Halatang “scripted” din ang nasabing palabas. Dahil sa malaki ang tendensyang maging boring ito, kailangan magkaroon ng mga maiinit na isyu – mga rebelasyon, pag-aaway at romansa sa pag-itan ng mga housemates – na hindi namang madalas o ordinaryong gagawin ng mga normal na tao na hindi magkakakilala lalo pa’t alam nilang may mga kamera sa paligid. Napakababaw din ng “challenge” na paghuli sa baboy na ipinagawa sa mga kalahok. Una sa lahat, paano nga naman magkakaroon ng pig pen sa loob ng bakuran ng ganung klaseng bahay?

Dapat ding silipin ng MTRCB ang maaaring mga di kanais-nais na eksena na maaaring maipakita sa palabas, gaya ng maiinit na tagpo sa sa pag-itan ng ilang magkasambahay. Nasa primetime block pa rin kasi ang PBB at kahit huli na itong naipalalabas, marami pa ring bata ang nanonood ng ganung oras.

Hindi rin maganda ang ipinakita sa unang episode na “sex talk” sa madaling araw ng ilang magkakasambahay at ang pagfo-focus sa camera sa lumabas na T-back ng isang kalahok.

Hindi rin kasi malayong mauwi sa Temptation Island ang ilang episode ng PBB na gustung-gusto ng ibang manonood lalo pa’t may malaking pressure sa istasyon na ungusan ang mga kalabang palabas.

Ang magiging tendensya para sa mga producer at writer ng nasabing programa ay palakihin o i-sensationalize ang mga ordinaryong mga bagay, sikreto at tampuhan, gaya ng ginagawa sa mga talk show, para lamang maengganyo ang mga manonood na subaybayan ang PBB. Subalit ang pagbatay o pag-asa sa ganitong format ng programa ay magbibigay lamang ng mga panandaliang mataas na rating ngunit hindi makakapagsustine ng tuluy-tuloy na malawak na audience.

Mas magiging kapana-panabik siguro ang Pinoy Big Brother kung sa Malakanyang at Kongreso ito gagawin. Tiyak na tatabo sa ratings ang PBB kung ang mapapanood dito ay si GMA at ang kanyang mga ginagawa kasama ng ibang opisyales ng gobyerno labas sa ibinabalita sa mga newscast.

Nagsisilbing babala rin ang PBB kung ano ang posibleng mangyari kapag naimplementa ang National ID system at maipasa sa Kongreso ang Anti-Terrorism Bill. Gaya kasi ng orihinal na konsepto ng palabas, maaari na ring ma-monitor ng mga intelligence agents ang bawat galaw ng kahit sinong tao at magkaroon ng access sa kanyang mga files tulad ng bank account.

Hindi lamang nito nilalabag ang right to privacy ng mga indibidwal kundi inilalagay sa bulnerableng sitwasyon ang mga kritiko at itinuturing na kaaway ng kasalukuyang gobyerno.

Crazy

The past month was simply crazy. There’s just no other word to describe it.

GMA’s Truth Commission (July 19)

Now this was really crazy. The idea that Mrs. Arroyo will form a Truth Commission which primary task is to investigate her own wrongdoings was simply absurd. But more than being ridiculous, it’s a travesty of justice and an insult to Filipinos’ intellect.

The truth is already out. What else can we still possibly ferret out?

Of course, this was a big flop. The people are intelligent enough to discern what is right from wrong and what is sincere from deceitful.

Raul Gonzalez (July 28 and the rampage continues)

He is the perfect embodiment of the word (Miriam Santiago has never looked so normal).

This man is not just a blabbermouth and a warfreak, he is already delusional. Gonzalez has gone mad and the Health department should do something before he starts biting somebody.

We could only imagine what other countries would be saying if they find out that the Philippine Justice department is being run by a mad man .

Sabi nga sa isang kasabihan, kung ano ang puno siya rin ang bunga. Gonzalez’s behavior merely reflects what kind of government Mrs. Arroyo is running.

Impeachment deliberations

Just watching some ‘learned and honorable’ lawmakers rant the same idiotic words everyday is already agonizing.

I observed the hearing in the Session hall last week but i immediately went out because I felt my brain cells were rapidly depleting. I was afraid that if I stay any longer my brain will pop out like what happened to the aliens in the Mars Attack movie.

If a well-known figure like Garcillano can disappear just like that, then it would be easier for low-profile, infamous criminals to break the law and getaway it. How can law enforcement agencies curb crime and protect the people if they cannot even catch a single person?

Bu we all should be cautious. The recent development in Garcillano’s whereabouts might also be a part of Malacañang’s ploy to mislead the people on the Election commisioner’s real location.

For all we know, Garcillano might just be hiding under president Arroyo’s bed.
